I extend a warm and cordial welcome to all of you this evening. Holy Cross Vidya Sadan is completing 15 years. I bow before the Almighty God for the Almighty God for His mysterious ways of leading and guiding Vidya Sadan all through these years under the leadershipof the Management, former principas and staff.The academic year 2016-17 has been a very purposeful and fruitful one. The year witnessed many milestones of excellent achievements in academics, co-curricular activities, sports and games which aim at improving the quality education of our institution. I feel proud and privileged to present before you a brief report of the achievements, activities and experience of the school during the academic year 2017-18
Our vision is to form well integrated, balanced personalities not only intellectually bright, but also morally upright, spiritually inspired, culturally strengthened, and socially committed young boys and girls of our future society.
The school campus was brimming with life on 1st June with the beginning of the new academic year. The school year started with a meaningful prayer service conducted by our staff and students. The new comers, specially the students of class one, were welcomed with flowers and sweets. The students and faculty members stepped in to the portals with renewed energy and zeal to begin another academic year.
Empowerment Programme for the Staff
Teaching is a profession that needs continual learning and relearning. Prior to the re-opening the Management arranged two days orientation program for the faculties on 28th &29th of May by S Chand Publications. Besides this teachers attended workshops and seminars conducted by sahodaya and various other organizations. On 31st of May a half day session was organized for the teachers for another enlighting session by Rev. Fr. George Peedikaparambil on the issues faced by today’s generation. CBSE introduced the new system of examination and the staff were given the training programme to equip them with new system in the month of June.
Sr. Rosily Xavier, after 4 years of service as principal was transferred and Sr. Rani Joseph took charge of the school in the month of May 2017.
The key stone to any educational institution lies in its consistent academic accomplishments. We are proud to say that our school secured 100% result in the 10th and 12th Board Examinations 2017. Meritorious students were honoured and appreciated on Award Day Celebrations on 22nd June. Chief Guest of the day was Sri. Suresh Kurup, M. L. A Ettumanoor. The following students of class X and XII got A1 grade in all the subjects.

Master Kiran Thomas Cherian was given Sr.Virginia Memorial Award for his excellent performance in AISSCE 2017.
Students are encouraged to take part in the activities and scholarship examinations conducted by various educational organizations like Sahodaya, DCL, PCM, Absolute Education Council etc. Many of our students were awarded merit certificates, medals and cash prizes.
To acquaint the students with democratic decorum, every year we conduct election to the school parliament. This year the school election was held on 19th June. The following students were elected as the new leaders.

The investiture ceremony of the new leaders, house captains and class representatives were held on 22nd June 2017.
The school gives due emphasis on the spiritual animation and personality development of the students. Moral science and value education classes, Holy Mass and retreat are arranged for the students.
Value based seminars proper guidance and counseling are given regularly. Career guidance classes are conducted for the students of higher classes.
Various clubs are functioning in our school. Arts club, literary club, science club, S.S. club, Maths club, Eco club etc…are a few among them. Inauguration of these clubs were done on 25th July by Rev. Sr. Alphonse Joseph, principal, Holy Cross H S S Thellakom.
Environmental day was celebrated on 5th June. Srimati Kunjumol Mathai M C was the chief guest and she inaugurated the function, by planting sapling along with our students.
Co- curricular activities
The school takes special care to nourish the inherent talents of the students and to give them an extra edge and confidence to move ahead in the competitive world. Training is imparted in various activities like music, dance, organ, guitar, drawing, painting, craft, karate, skating & yoga. Special English coaching for good pronunciation was given to class I to VI.
Acquiring new language is a skill. French class was organized for a month for the students from class I to VIII. Miss Karine from France joined as a French Teacher and the students benefitted from the class.
Rays 2016- Youth festival
Youth festivals serve as a means for exhibiting the literary and artistic talents of students. This year school youth festival Laurel 2017 was held on 26th and 27th of July. The function was inaugurated by Sri. Harikumar Changapuzha, coordinator of M G University Cultural programme and grandson of the great poet Changapuzha Krishnapilla. House wise competition was an opportunity for students to work and perform both as an individual and as a team. The regional Sahodaya youth festival was held at Mangalam Public School, Ettumanoor and many of our students participated in various items and won A grade.
Newheights -2017 …School Sports Day
`Annual Sports Meet was conducted on 2nd and 3rd of November. Mr. Jose Jacob, the winner of Arjuna Award inaugurated the function by hoisting the school flag. Students participated in various events with immense vigor and enthusiasm.
Selected students participated in the Sahodaya Sports Meet and Master Amal Sebastian of class X secured 3rd prize in 800 and 1500 metres race. Our school also participated in the the campaign for one million goal in preparation for the under 17 world cup foot ball tournament.
We are proud of kumarai Theresa Joseph of class V and Master Tom Joseph of class IV who secured Ist place in two events in Kottayam Sahodaya Roller Skating Championship conducted at SH School, Kilimala
The school is proud of Master Tom Joseph who brought laurel to the school by winning the Ist prize in State level roller skating championship organized by state government in Adimali, Idukki.
Festivals and celebrations
Festivals and celebrations are given deserved significance at Holy Cross Vidya Sadan. Important National and state Festivals are celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. Independance day, Gandhi jayanthi and Republic day are given due importance. In connection with these days, various competitions were organized and winners were given prizes.
We celebrated Onam with various traditional cultural programs on 30th and 31st August. This year we had the celebration along with the grand parents of B T M old age home. They were welcomed with love and the studentspresented them onakkodi. After the colourful programme, they were given onasadhya. With lot of happiness in their heart, they returned.
Students had a wonderful occasion to honor their teachers on Teacher’s Day. The studet council members made it a memorable one with various interesting programs. Children's day was another occasion of merriment. The morning assembly was conducted L P section students. The students of three schools together conducted a rally .Tiny tots dressed up as National leaders and variety entertainments by the little ones added pomp and splendor to the Children's day function.
Kerla piravi Elora 2017 was celebrated with great enthusiasm in which master Ninvin Chackalackal and kum Twinkle Maria Jaison were selected as Mister and Miss Holy Cross respectively.
An awareness programme through magic was organized. Magical experience helped the students to be aware of the social evils that take them away from values.
Science exhibition of the current academic year…SPECTRUM-2017 was held in the school auditorium on 27th Sept 2017. Principal Sr.Rani Joseph inaugurated the function. Chief among the exhibits were simple experiments, still models, craft works, charts etc. A panel of teachers judged the exhibits. Our students also participated in Sahodaya level exhibition competition.
Out reach programs - Love in Action
‘It is not how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts'. These words of Mother Theresa are an inspiration for our students to do work of charity. Junior Vincent De Paul Society is very active and every Wednesday they come together for prayer, discussion and planning under the leadership of their animators. Mission sale was conducted on sports day for charity purpose. Every year our teachers and students visit centers like special schools, old age homes and other charitable institutions.
Nallapadam project 2017 was inaugurated and we have organized the following programmes as part of Nallapadam.
Padheyam- Distribution of food packets to the impatients of Govt. Health Center at Athirampuzha from Monday to Friday.
Celebration of Onam with the inmates of BTM old age home.
The dream project of Nallapadam is Swapnakoodu. The students with the support of teachers and well wishers are building a house for a homeless family. It is expected to complete in and January and present it as a New Year gift to the family.
A joint venture of Malayala Manorama and the School, was inaugurated on June 13th 2017 by Mr.Prakash Thomas Asst.Director Matha Hospital, the sponsor of Manorama Daily to our school.
Deepika Nammude Bhasha padhathi
This year also, our school had the privilege to host the district level inauguration of Deepika Nammude Bhasha padhathi. The function was arranged on 21st July. It was presided by Rev.Dr.Mani Puthiyidam Managing Director Deepika and was inaugurated by Sri. Joy Abraham M. P.
Educational trips were held for all the classes. Three days trip was arranged for the students of class X and IX. They visited Wayanad, Bangalore and Wonder-La. Students of class IV to VIII visited Wonder-La and Ernakulam and class I, II and III were taken to Play World Ettumanoor for a day of outing. It was a time of refreshment, renewal and rejoicing.
PTA plays an important role in the smooth functioning of the school. We have an efficient PTA under the leadership of Mr. Savio Manattu as the President. The general Body meeting was held on 9th July. On that day a motivational class was conducted for the parents by Mr. Shaji C Mani of Macmillian publishers. Sent off was given to Dr. George Kurian who served the school as PTA President for years. During the PTA executive meeting Mr. Savio Manattu was selected unanimously as the next PTA President.
On November 11th a number of sports and games were organized for parents. Mr. Prasanth Kumar S I, of Ettumanoor inaugurated the fest and Sr. E M Mary the Manager distributed the prizes. Lucky parent, Best couple and individual champions were selected.

Thus the curtain of an eventful academic year is nearing to its close. We the entire school community raise our grateful hearts to the Almighty for His abundant blessings. Before I conclude I am deeply grateful to our Chief Guest Dr. J Prameela Devi, who so very graciously accepted our invitation to come over here and to inaugurate our 15th Annual Day function. I wish to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to Mis. Aditi Ravi, Cine artist, Rev.Fr.Joseph Tharayil our Parish Priest, Sr. Mary E M our manager, Sri. Savio Manattu PTA President, and executive members, sisters, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, friends and well- wishers of Holy Cross Vidya Sadan. I do thank you dear parents for your cooperation, suggestion and support.
