I extend a warm and cordial welcome to all of you this evening. Holy Cross Vidya Sadan, run by the congregation of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, was established in 2003 and is completing 17 years. I raise my grateful heart to God Almighty for the numerous blessings showered on Vidya Sadan during the year 2019. With immense joy I present before you a brief report of the achievements, activities and experiences of the school during the current academic year.
Our vision is to form well integrated, balanced personalities not only intellectually bright, but also morally upright, spiritually inspired, culturally strengthened, and socially committed young boys and girls of our future society.
The school campus was brimming with life on 6th June with the beginning of the new academic year. The school year started with a meaningful prayer service conducted by our staff and students. The new comers were welcomed with flowers, balloons and sweets. The students and faculty members stepped into the portals with renewed energy and zeal to begin another academic year.
Empoerment programme for the staff
Teaching is a profession that needs continual learning and relearning. Prior to the reopening the management arranged an orientation programme for the faculties by Mr.Sunil D.kuruvilla the founder director of insight mission .Besides this teachers attended workshops and seminars conducted by Sahodaya ,Hub of learning and CBSE.
Sr.Rani Joseph after 2 years of service as principal was transferred and Sr.Alphonse Joseph took charge of the school in the month of May 2019.
With a complete change of exam pattern and grading system, the students of class X secured 100% results in the AISSE examination. Two students namely R.Kesavapugazhendhi and Gouri siva got full A1 who occupied top place in the board examination Ajzal V Abubacker secured 100 marks in Social Science, and 41 students secured distinction. In AISSCE examination, Parvathy Arjun became the topper in Science. Amutha S.Nair was topper in English and Rija Rachel was topper in mathematics. Meritorious students were honoured and appreciated on Award Day celebrations on 5th July. Dr.Leena Mathew the principal and research guide of B.K College was the chief guest. Kumari parvathy Arjun was given Sr. Virginia Memorial Award and Master R.Kesavpukazhendhi. was presented Sr. Olivia memorial award for their excellent performance in XII and X examination respectively.
School election is a means to train the students as responsible leaders of our country. It also acquaint them with democratic decorum. School parliamentary election was held on 25th June. Master Jais George of X was elected as head boy and kum. Anjana Kammath as the head girl. Master Edwin Georde Linto and Kumari Akarsha Kammath were elected as Sports Club and arts club secretary respectively. The captains and vice captains of each house were also elected. The investiture ceremony of the new leaders was conducted on 18th July.
The students are divided into four different houses, Emerald, Ruby, Topaz and Zaphire. Each house is managed by the in charge teachers and students as house captain and vice captains. They organize and manage house wise competitions and celebrations. This year, emerald house has won the highest point to win the trophy.
The students are given opportunity to participate in different clubs, such as literary club, science club, social science clubs, Maths clubs, and eco club are few among them. The inauguration of all the clubs was done on 9th July. The importance of encouraging our children in outdoor work with living plants the students and teachers of eco club made a medicinal garden in our school..
Co – curricular activities
The school takes special care to nourish the inherent talents of the students and to give them an extra edge and confidence to move ahead in the competitive world.
Training is imparted in various activities like dance, organ guitar, drawing, painting, art and craft, karate, skating and yoga which help them to have an all round development of their personality along with academic excellence.
Hubs of Learning
This year The CBSE board has decided to come out with the policy framework for affiliated schools to share, co-operate and learn from each other by forming a small group of schools as Hubs of Learning to raise the standards of school education in the country. We are one among the six schools nearby. We had interschool competitions conducted and our students secured first place in foot ball, and Quiz competition.
Faith formationThe school gives due emphasis on the spiritual animation and personality development of the students. Proper guidance and counselling, Holy Mass every first Friday, Retreat ,Rosary in October, Value education, moral classes and seminars are arranged for the students regularly.
Youth festivals are the cradles of the student’s artistic and cultural development.re.Sr.Jyothi Thomas , Principal of Holy Cross HSS inaugurated the youthfestival of this year. Dance and music in various forms, painting, drawing, speech, acting, literary writing are fields where four houses competed with each other. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners of various competitions. The regional sahodaya youth Festwell was held at St.Antony’s public school Anckal and many of our students participated in various items and Kum.Harsha Haridas won III prize for Bharathanadyam and others won A grade Kumari Ardra of class vII won A grade in classical music at state level.
The importance of sports and games in school encompasses more than just the benefit of physical activity; it increases self esteem and mental alertness. Annual school sports day was celebrated on 24th and 25th October. Circle inspector A.J Thomas of Ettumanoor inaugurated the sports day by hoisting the school flag and lighting the ceremonial torch. All the students participated in various events with great interest and vigour. Our students won first prize in foodball conducted by Hub of learning.
We are proud of Master Tom Joseph of class Vi and Kum Therese Joseph of class VII who secured first place in two events in Kottayam Sahodaya Roller Skating Championship conducted at Placid Vidyavihar changanassery.
A fit and healthy individual leads to an equally healthy society and strong nation. The Khelo India programme has been introduced in our school . As part of it we have done various fitness exercises to the students.
Festivals and celebrations
Every significant occasion is given due importance in Holy Cross Vidya Sadan. Important National and state festivals are celebrated with joy and enthusiasm. Various programs and competitions are arranged in connection with the events.
Onam was celebrated with various traditional cultural programms.This year we had the celebration along with the aged parents of Ambro Bhavan, Athirampuzha. Onam kit was provided for the 10 families. The students std X took charge of it. Teachers’ day was celebrated under the leadership of student council members. Children’s day was another occasion of celebration. The students of three schools together conducted a rally. Tiny tots dressed up as national leaders and variety entertainment by the little ones added pomp and splendour to the children’s day function.
English language Fest was conducted to improve and inculcate love for the language and bring out creativity of each student Various competitions were conducted and the prizes were given to the winners..
We owe much to Mrs.Sophy George who is retiring this year after the fifteen years of committed service in our institution. She is a person of smartness nobility and hard work. From the inception of our school she contributed much for the growth and development of the school. We acknowledge and appreciate all that she had been and assure our prayers in the future years.
The students of Holy Cross special school Mannackanad conducted an exhibition in our school with variety handmade objects prepared by them. Rev. Dr.sr. Perpetua our manager inaugurated the exhibition.
It is not how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts. These words of mother Theresa was an inspiration for our students to do work of charity. Junior Vincent De Paul Society is very active and every Thursday they come together for prayer, discussion and planning under the leadership of their animators. Mission sale was conducted on sports day for charity purpose. Every year teachers and students visits centers like special schools, old age homes and other charitable institutions.
Nallapadam project 2019 was inaugurated and we have organized the following programmes.
ØStudents contributed a Wall cupboard and other food items to the differently abled children in Holy Cross Special School in Mannackanad as part of Christmas celebration.
Students distributed food packets to the inpatients in medical college kottayam.
Østudents visited the old age home Ambros bhavan at Athirampuzha and celebrated onam with them providing onasadya .
ØA beautiful vegetable garden is maintained by the students in the school campus.
ØAn awareness class on obesity and its after effects was given to the students of class V to XI by Dr. Jeevan Joseph of Carithas hospital
ØFit India movement
In connection with fit India Movement the students did the cleaning of the campus and the public roads, planted trees, participated in various programme as instructed by the board.
Excursions are carefully planned as part of the educational programme. They play a vital role in motivating students and engaging them in active learning. This year the students of class IX, and XI were taken to Koorg and mysore, class IV to VIII to wonderla class I to III to Lulu Mall. These were days of fun and merriment and moments of unforgettable experience for the students.
Value based assemblies are conducted regularly. Each class is given a theme to perform and students are encouraged to live the values in their life.
Eye and ear Camp
To enhance awareness about the good vision and hearing a camp was arranged by the Ahalya hospital in which the students had an opportunity to check their eyes and ears.
We have an efficient PTA under the leadership of Mr. Savio Manattu, as the president. The general body meeting was held on 6th July. A motivating class by Mr. Justin Thomas was arranged for the parents. PTA executive committee is very active and supportive in giving timely suggestions and help.
Sense of gratitude
As the academic year 2019-20 is nearing to its close, together with the entire Holy Cross Vidya Sadan family, I raise my grateful heart to God Almighty for His ever abiding presence, abundant blessings and constant guidance. I extend my sincere gratitude to our chief guest, Dr.C.t Aravindakumar Pro Vice Chancellor of M.G University, who graciously accepted our invitation to inaugurate our 17th annual day celebrations. I do express my appreciation and thanks to Rev.Fr.Joseph Tharayil, our parish priest, Rev. Sr. Perpetua, our manager, Master Alan roy and Kum.Meera Krishna our Formar students Mr. Savio Manattu, PTA president, executive members, sisters, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, friends and benefactors of Holy Cross Vidya Sadan. I do thank our dear parents for your cooperation, support and suggestions. With the permission of the dignitaries of the day, parents, colleagues and well wishers, may I submit this report for your approval.
